John Helyar – founder of The Tree Place
John Helyar’s name and reputation is synonymous with The Tree Place. Since arriving from England in 1971 and setting up his first tree nursery in Mt Wellington, John has been the top grower and supplier of large trees to home owners, landscapers, property developers and councils for the Auckland region and beyond.
John has always provided expert plant and garden design ideas and advice, and is highly experienced in landscape and plant design. While the focus of The Tree Place has recently changed, he is still “the person to go to” for information about, and the supply and installation of, the best large grade specimen (2+ metre) trees around.
Mark Helyar – Co-Owner of The Tree Place
Mark Helyar has over 27 years experience working in the horticulture and landscaping industry, which has included working in The Tree Place nursery at various times as well as for other landscape construction and gardening companies. After completing a Professional Diploma in Environmental Design, he worked for Dr Spruce as their leading designer for four years before setting up his own business, Active Land Artists.
Active Land Artists then went on to became a very successful landscape company within the industry. In 2006, Mark merged Active Land Artists with The Tree Place Ltd, becoming Co-Director with John, and bringing with him a wide range of knowledge and disciplines in landscape design and landscape construction.
New premises & a new direction – same exceptional standard of service
The Tree Place has moved to new premises in Brookby, Whitford. This marks the beginning of an exciting new phase for The Tree Place.
While there is no onsite retail outlet in Brookby, large trees are still available by contacting us by phone or by enquiring online. If you apply to become a trade member of our website, you’ll be able to access our wholesale rates and take advantage of special offers as well as keep up to date with any recent developments.
The Tree Place has increasingly offered garden design advice and plans over the years, and now, full landscaping services are a major part of our business.
